i find it neverendinglyextraordinary that supposed music journo's always tar musicians like yorkston / marling with the folk brush despite the factual actual fact that they are clearly pop singers. What would they expect to find on a hypothetical cd of Folk Music Of The British Isles? Surely it wouldn't be ANY of the musicians listed here and not just because Midlake are North American. Why then are they always called Folk? I can understand roberts and unthank as the clearly cover a lot of traditional ground - but the others!! Having a banjo doesn't make a band a folk band. It makes them a band with a banjo, that's all.
