Another example of mindless bureaucracy in the UK! I read today that a Cornish tortoise sanctuary, the Tortoise Garden at Sticker, is to close down after Cornwall Council re-classified it as a zoo. They've decided that tortoises are wild animals and not pets. I've never been attacked by a wild tortoise but you never know what they might be plotting when hiding in their shells. This sanctuary has existed for 120 yrs and cares for unwanted, abandoned and injured tortoises. Thanks to the council ruling, it will cost the owners £25,000 to comply with zoo regulations. Unfortunately they don't have this kind of money so will close the operation down and try and rehome the tortoises. A council drone stated "Officers sought advice from zoo experts and from the council's legal department". What a moron! This is exactly the kind of red tape that Cameron/Clegg have pledged to sweep away - well they can make a start with the bureaucratic drones masquerading as Cornwall councillors. I used to own a three-legged tortoise when I was a kid - these days I'd probably be interrogated by social services and the RSPCA as to why my tortoise was missing a limb.
