How have you been my darling children?
While I have been away in the west?
Although that we're strangers, I feel like you know me
By the way that you great me & offer to treat me
And ask me how long I'll stay for a rest.
Here are some stones from the throat of a princess,
Who reigned in the year 200 BC.
Wear them & love them & don't forget (most of all share them?) to share them
And I hope that you'll grow to be lovely,
As lovely as the lady who gave them to me
Here is a string from a mysterious guitar
That I found on a floor in a club in Marseilles.
It's too fat for the third string to skinny for the fourth string
But I had hopes of playing it some day
It's funny how people keep things that way
And here is a turtle from the New Jersey turnpike
Who says that his home been all cover with tar
So I gave him a ride on the back of my suitcase
And he says that he'd like to live in your yard
At long last his life wouldn't be very hard
Repeat 1st verse.
I've always love this, used to sing it to the kids when they were little. I'm sure my memory has failed me in places. This is the best I can recall. Maybe others could jump in to correct any of the mistakes. Barry
