I simply could not believe my ears this morning when I heard that the FA have invited Steve McClaren to put his name in the hat for the next England manager's job. Ye Gods!! I know the FA are a bunch of spineless has-beens and as much use as a chocolate teapot, but this really does surpass all understanding. This is the man who got us dumped out of the European Cup qualifiers in 2007 when we lost 3-2 to Croatia. I have two images burned in my memory from that game - the ball running up Scot Carson's arm and into the net and McClaren standing folornly in pouring rain in the technical area clutching his soggy wad of game plans and an umbrella. How on earth can he be considered a serious candidate to take the job on again? Are we that bereft of decent British managers for the manager's job? Personally I think Harry Redknapp should be an automatic shoe-in once Capello leaves.
