Let me echo what Booklynrose has to say. Also, if your friend follows the link she provided, he will be able to view the October issue of the New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club newsletter online. While it lists only club events on the front page, if your friend looks on pages 9-17 inside, he we see all sorts of folk music events throughout New York City and beyond.

Between the two websites, your friend should find more than enough t keep him busy.
