Given the futility of attacking the illegal drugs industry through police and court processess, maybe it's time to re-think what we do and why we do it. Whilst we criminalise the end user, the people higher up the chain rake in millions and mock the system. Legalising recreational drugs could work in so many positive ways, not only offering a controlled, measurable dosage, delivered hygienically, but taking out of the hands of the criminals. Manufactured under proper regulation, the drugs industry could create thousands of jobs, put cash through the registers of millions of retailers and generate billions in taxes at a time when the major economies of the world are in dire straits. What do we really have to lose? Some of our children, like many of us did in our youth, will go on to experiment with drugs. Some will develop a habit, some won't. Just like with Alchohol and Tobacco. But at least we, and they, will know what and how much they're taking. I'm interested to hear your opinions.
