Julius Lester and Pete Seeger credit "Salty Dog" to Huddie Ledbetter. Their guide to the 12-string has a Folkways version. I think that Nitty Gritty Dirt Band may have recorded a similar version. I have to admit that I like the tune better than the sentiments.
4/4, in A
CHORUS: Mama let me be your salty dog.
I don't want to be your man at all.
You salty dog, oh you salty dog.
God made a woman and he made her mighty funny.
When you kiss her round the mouth, just as sweet as any honey.
Scaredest I ever been in my life.
When my buddy like to caught me kissing his wife.
Little fish, big fish swimming in the water.
Come back her man, give me my quarter.
