I was delighted to be able to pass it on. I thought it was a great song, from the first time I heard it, but didn't know of anyone else who knew it. Not being particulary musical, I haven't been able to do a great deal to spread it around. I'm so relieved it exists somewhere other than in my own head! Incidentally, I didn't know of the Jarrow March connection. I first heard the song on a 78rpm record my grandad would have bought in Lancashire, probably in the 1920s, so that would tally with it being popular at the time of the march. Fate being what it is, I later moved away - and now live not too far from Jarrow. Small world, isn't it?
