Reading the coverage of the cables I'm left with a growing admiration for US diplomats. Previously I'd imagine them to be box-headed paperclip pushers with no imagination or world view, but the cables show them to be remarkably astute when it comes to guaging what's afoot. As for the outrage at spookery - what's the surprise? With the redactions made, the only outcome I can see is a few red faces and a little less posturing by various politicos about the 'speshul relationship'.
