The last major stud of Clydesdale horses to be sold in Scotland,some eighteen head, were sold at the farm of Beauly Mains, up ayont Inverness, in the late 1980s. I missed this sale by a week so can give no indication of the prices paid. A breed of animal and a race of men have gone from the land, the like we"ll never see. We"ve sung the last o the auld sang. The sang o the plooman chiel, As the chains garred clink on his horses sides, When they wheeled at the fit o the dreel.
