[A dear friend once told me that something does not have to be "fact" to be "true."] I hear you. I used to remark about U. Utah Phillips' stories that "they were ALL true, even those that actually happened that way." And everyone knew what I meant by that. Country Music (and folk music) -- "three chords and the truth" -- feature stories and events that are purely made-up, but stand on their own two feet (or three, in some cases) because of the universal cultural truths they exhibit.
