Yes absolutely! Song lyrics are always stolen (or borrowed) especially in blues and folk. Its possible to play simple chords and sing simple melodies (which have appeared in a million other songs before) and to take "standard" lines which appear in many songs (such as the arms like the circle around the sun) to create a "new" song.
