As much as I enjoy 90s brit pop/rock, I was way more into "grunge" at the time. Soundgarden is my favorite band of all time, I also loved the RHCP. I think some of these bands were more inspired by 60s, 70s musicians, some of whom were folk musicians. You had a folk revival around that time, so there's definitely a possibility that some of these bands listened and enjoyed this music. You can hear the influence of Bob Dylan ::gag::-sorry not a big Dylan, but also stuff like Peter, Paul, Mary, and folk/blues like The Animals and Moby Grape, and Eric Clapton of course. In the US, I always thought that bands like Oasis and Blur were more 1 hit wonders for mainstream audiences than bands people listened to. (nothing against them, their music is great, I just only remember like Wonderwall on the radio. I guess they must have played Don't Look Back in Anger, but I don't remember hearing much else)
