My grandmother had a 78 recording of this song when I was very young - back in the 1950's. She told me it had been one of my grandfather's favorite songs (he died when I was 2 or 3 yrs. old). I tried to memorize it back then but cannot remember most of it. I do remember a verse that I haven't seen anywhere else:

The Spanish cavalier was bringing up the rear
And on his guitar played a tune, dear;
The music was sweet and oft did repeat,
The story of his love just for you, dear.
