Guernsey Pete Lyr Req: New York parody of 'City of New Orleans' (3) RE: Lyr Req: New York parody of 'City of New Orleans' 28 Feb 11

It was a subway song;
"Riding on the Seventh Avenue loco,
Number Nine to Two-Forty-Second Street..."
But who was it from ?
Was there something about a movement called "Peons for the City" mentioned in the persons' introduction ?
It was all so long ago......
   ....anyway, does that stir any memories ?
