Here is one to ponder. let's say that I hear a song I like at a jam and go buy the sheet music and take the time to learn it. Now that I know this song I take it to a jam where space for the jam has been made availible by a local coffee house. Now here I am playing this song and the music police show up and say that I can't play that song here without someone paying royalties because the coffeehouse is taking in money for coffee, doughnuts and such while it's being played (this happened in my area, effectively shutting down that particular jam). My question is this, I paid for for the sheet music (from which royalties were paid), I haven't charged anyone to listen to me play it (they may not pay to hear me play it anyway), yet I can't play it because someone in the background is selling something? Why did I buy the music in the first place? DT posts lyrics and sells T-shirts, does DT pay royalties on the sales? Where does it end? Jim
