I thought I'd revive this old thread rather than start a new one. The latest figures, published today, on life expectancy show that people in the UK now live to an average 80 years. Two years more than in the US. Life expectancy is the ultimate measure of general health (unless you're at war) so this is significant. The cost of health care in the US is almost twice what it is in the UK. I think that gives an idea of what a nationalised health care system can do for you. :-)
