This is why this is my last year. Had this been me, the headline would have read "On-Ice-Official hospitalizes player!" HOCKEY ASSAULT PROBED Barrie police say they expect assault charges to follow after an incident during a midget house league hockey tournament Sunday. Police were called to the East Bayfield Community Centre arena just before noon after an assault on a 20-year-old linesman. The assault occurred during a Barrie Minor Hockey Association tournament. Police said a 17-year-old player began swearing and gesturing inappropriately to the crowd after he received a penalty for tripping. The referee gave him a gross misconduct penalty and told him to leave the ice. At that point, the player dropped his gloves and repeatedly punched the linesman in the face. Police said the player was than forcefully removed from the ice and police were summoned. Police said the out-of-town player had left the arena before they got there. The linesman suffered minor facial injuries and didn't require medical treatment. Police officers are interviewing witnesses and viewing video in anticipation of laying charges.
