The builder is now wondering if he should go ahead and order the stone anyway... the conservation officer suggested grey and yellow, and the quarry people have suggested mixing a little of the local red sandstone in as well. I think I had better ask the planning officer if we would be ok to order it! I think if anyone actually dared to paint the stone on a listed building, and it got damaged, they might find themselves hauled into court. Especially here in Northumberland, who have one of the stricted planning departments in the country, from what I can gather! Mind you, the council is strapped for cash, so can't always afford to prosecute. Andrea
