lin·tel noun \ˈlin-təl\ Definition of LINTEL : a horizontal architectural member spanning and usually carrying the load above an opening. Why, Amos, are you perched above a door or some other opening? You probably don't add much to any decorative function the lintel may have and you could fall and put an eye out or something if you're not careful. Or are you in ambush, ready to jump upon the next person or thing passing through the opening? Depending upon the opening you're hovering above you could be considered a hemorrhoid or something, you know.
