Looking at the news film of the floods in the south east of England, and remebering that we're told that water levels are going to rise because of global warming, how on earth will the umpteen-thousand new homes destined for that area stay dry? We build on the flood plains and replace water-absorbent soil with tarmac and concrete, and then complain about the water running through the living room. Common sense went out of the window years ago...
