Just watched "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy". I was really looking forward to it as I was a fan of both the novels and the TV series with Alec Guiness but came away dissapointed. As good as the TV series was, the slow pace of delivery that made Guinness' "Smiley" so appealing, doesn't work nearly as well in a 2 hour movie format and the producer seemed to be slavishly and reverentially copying the original. Some good performances and I would have loved it as a remake of the whole TV series but a different approach was needed for the cinema. I found myself wondering what the younger members of audience, who may not of read any of the Le Carre novels and were too young to have seen the TV series, could have made of it. At least it makes the audience work, rather than constantly explaining itself in the way a lot of todays dumbed-down offerings do, but, for me, the effort was poorly rewarded. C-flat
