"nothing is traditional until it becomes so" There is no possibility of any modern song becoming traditional under the revival definition because there is no representative body that can be petitioned for a song to be included in the canon. Under other circumstances a song would be popularised by being sung, but as traditionalists insist modern compositions have no place in a folk context, the opportunity for admission is non-existent. Those facts mean that historical folk music is destined to be a re-enactment or a museum piece. I have no qualms with that situation, it allows historic music to continue to be sung among enthusiasts but to pretend that it allows aperture for new material is completely disingenuous.
