The strings are not too old to tune. We have an 1898 model 73 harp with the original strings still on it. It's easy to tune and most of the time it stays that way for weeks. But, as mentioned above,you'll have to tune it several times (once a day works for us)before it will stay in tune and new strings do sound better. Bev and Jerry
