And when you have done the North Island and are heading south to Wellington and the ferry, pass by Paekakariki and have a day or two here around Wellington. PM me and I'll give you the address and contact points. Things to See, Lower North Island: 1) seal colony, Cape Palliser (the road out there is a blast, too) 2) Martinborough and the vineyards, 3)Kapiti Island (if you are a birder, this is a must-do) 4) the Otaki Gorge (a great campsite up there and super walking terrain). Oh, and BTW, try and not be at campsites over the New Year, unless you really like 24-hour partying and lots of drunken hoons running around! NZ is OK generally, but it has its downsides.
