I met Jeff (Heeby Jeeby) and Stan Gee when I worked at Mirlees Blackstone in Hazel Grove and on occasion I played the wash board with The Slipper Ally Sidewalk Stompers. I also remember going caving with the DCC. At that time people generally called me Humperdink or Hump due to my physical likeness to Engelbert Humperdink who was popular in the late sixties. My brief encounters with Slipper Ally and visits to Poynton folk club inspired me to learn to play the mandolin. I bought one just before I left England in 1971 and moved to Australia. In 1973 I began to work as a full time folk musician touring in Australia where I still reside. During the 1980s I went to university as a mature aged student and later became a high school teacher. However, I have maintained my interest in folk music I still perform at folk festivals.
