Last spring I watched a juvenile sparrowhawk eating a sparrow in the back yard. Once it had taken it up on the fence, the other birds resumed feeding as if to say "It's OK. He's busy." You always know when there is a sparrowhawk or peregrine about, as you wouldn't think small birds existed! Normal activity (spitting sunflower seeds on the ground) is suspended.
