I have both too but I think your idea of putting more money into the iPad is probably a sound one. You'll love it. I think its the most fun piece of hardware I have ever invested in. I love the Garage Band app its an amazing piece of technology for the unbelievable price of $4.99. I recently flew from the west coast of Canada to the east coast and along the way composed and recorded a piece of music I am really very proud of. I use Garage Band on my iPad to quickly record all my rough ideas and then transfer them to Logic Pro on my iMac.
