I am in the process of uploading my video recording of a Northumbrian performer called Mike Wildes performing his version of this delightful song and thanks to the internet I have finaly deciphered this part of the song "mine nee mair" I wonder if any Geordies can definitively describe the meaning of this phrase. I am guessing that Mair is as in the female horse and refers to the woman so I guess the expression "mine nee mair" is something akin to "My Woman" I love the Geordie dialect which historicaly derives from a mixture of Northern English and Scots influences so it will be interesting to read other interpretations of this curious little part of this song. |
