I think La Tour was famous for painting faces in unusual lighting.

Another thing delightful in the painting is Jesus' knees.

Once I took an airplane flight next to a mother who was holding her two-year old son. I spent a lot of time looking down at his knees as he slept. At the end of the flight, I told the mother, "I've been looking at his cute little knees."

She said, "Yes, it's things like that that make you want to keep having children."
