Old point: By the time Maerdy closed it might well have been mining anthracite or semi anthracite. Tower was mining way way west by the time it shut, and Mardy was linked with Tower I recall. Maerdy to Aberpergwm direct would be 5 or 6 miles, and 'Pergwm was anthracite.
