In looking through my great-grandmother's things, I found a Voice-o-graph record of my grandfather singing. I wasn't able to ask him about it before he passed away, and I am trying to find out what song it is, but have very little to go on.

For some location/time help, he was born and raised in southern Alabama and the recording was made in the early 1950s.

The lyrics seems to be about a 'soldier boy' on a farm, but that is about all I can make out for sure. I don't know enough of a phrase to be able to search the database yet.

I really appreciate the help. Even if you don't know the song, if you have any direction to point me, I would appreciate it.
