Try Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds and it's two sequels. These "novels of an ancient China that never was" combine the cleverness, humor, and fantasy of Pratchett - though if anything I'd say Hughart's books are even better and cleverer. Barry Hughart lived in China and has clearly made an in-depth study of Chinese religion and folklore - enough to write a respectful and hilarious parody. Dan
