I go into the booth and see the big machine. I push on the little boxes next to the names of the people I'm voting for. A little red light goes on in the box. (I can't write in "Harry Potter" for President, nor anyone else. There is a write-in box for some other office, but I have never needed to use it.) When I think I'm through, I re-check all the boxes to make sure. If I have made a mistake, I just push the right box: the red light goes on in that box, and my mistake disappears. Then I push the "Vote" button in the lower right-hand corner. It is all very large and clear and forgiving. When I get out of the booth, if I then realize I made a mistake - well, I don't know whether there's any recourse or not.
This is Fairfax County, VA.
