My mum used to sing a version of this to all my sisters, my twin brother, and me. Even now I can't sing it without getting choked up, as it's virtually the first song I ever heard, and I can still hear my mum singing it. She died in 1997, but her voice, and the words, are firmly implanted in my memory. I sang it to my children, and now my daughter sings it to hers. My mum's version is: Goodnight, Mr. Moon, I am going for to leave you. Goodnight, Mr. Moon, come again and see me soon. And when you're asleep, through the window-pane I'll peep, And call out, and cry out, Goodnight, Mr. Moon. Sorry, but I'm blubbing as I write it!
