Thyme2dream Lyr Req: Free Mexican Airforce (Peter Rowan) (51* d) RE: Free Mexican Airforce 14 Nov 00

Bill D...I disagree that it's just a song. Although I don't think listening to it is going to ruin anyone's life, and I think its a fascinating song, it much more than just a funny little weird song when you look at some of the verses:

"It is not marijuana destroying the minds of the young
But confusion continued for power and greed in all forms
Well, the borders of evil will fall to the smugglers of light"
and also:

"Yeah the law wants it all 'cause they know that the wild weed can free ya
And freedom for us is a prison for the rulers of might"

Some serious crusading going on there if you ask me...and if you've ever seen Peter Rowan play live, or tried to hold a converstion with him you'll know in an instant that he really practices what he preaches--The man is out to lunch, totally spaced out, way from some other planet and/or eight miles high. He's kind of amazing though. The last time I saw him live, he was so gone before the show I wondered if he would be able to play-had the glassiest look in his eyes and his conversation was very strange and disjonted--but once he got onstage he was brilliant!

LEJ...I agree with your post 100% and I don't think the alcohol/pot analogy is overused at all. I lived with an alcoholic and I would much rather we legalized marijauna! Even though I don't partake of either on a regular basis I think alcohol is much more of a social problem...more addictive and more likely to exascerbate violent tendancies.

Oh and Seth...I agree with you as well, Flaco and Peter do sound great together... I love this version of the song!
