The first comprehensive collection of Chartist songs and poems was a Russian study published in 1956 (The commentary is all in Russian while the songs poems and literary writing is in English) Y. V. Many hundred's were published in the life of Chartist newspaper The Northern Star which became for a time the most widely read newspaper in Britain. At one stage the paper was receiving so much verse that the Editor wrote "Please stop sending any more poetry"
