I feel a bit like a fly in the ointment but... The Taliban dismisses our values, Human Rights and all, as the product of Western culture with all its flaws. And they don't seem to be completely lacking in local support. As Lizzie point sout, any change has got to come from the people themselves, but how is this going to happen while the values we cherish, and would regard as self-evidently right, do not sit easily in a very different culture? I am not defending the Taliban's actions. I do wish, though, that I could understand their point of view ("know thine enemy").
