In my family, New Year's Day has always been the time for taking the tree down. My folks always watched the Rose Parade on TV while stowing ornaments in their boxes. I don't care much for the parade, but it still seems to me the right time to do it. My Mom used to say that if you leave it up too long, it isn't special any more.
