Isn't it more likely that these "nonsense" lines in old Gaelic poems and/or songs are merely sections, the correct words of which have been forgotten or , perhaps, misheard or misunderstood over many, many years ? There are many dialects in the language , as I know from Irish language differences on this small island
Anyway,why would someone compose "nonsense lines" in their original poem or song ? I only ask ?
I think that, perhaps, some do, nowadays, in an attempt to sound "ethnic".
