Folk Collective to perform special tribute to Tom Waits

in Music News

Tom Waits is one of the most respected and prolific songwriters of all time. He has released dozens of albums since his first release 'Closing Time' (1973) right up until his most recent 'Bad as Me' (2011). A sonic adventurer and cult performer, his songs have been performed and recorded by everyone from The Eagles to Bruce Springsteen to Peter Gabriel. Not to mention Rod Stewart.

Bright Phoebus is a folk collective based in Sheffield who have been performing and promoting concerts across the city and have even ventured south to London once or twice. Regulars include Martin Simpson, Jon Boden, Roy Bailey, Sam Sweeney, Fay Hield, James Fagan and Nancy Kerr – all of whom will be contributing to a special tribute to one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries at Shrewsbury Folk Festival.

An album produced by Andy Bell featuring many of the Bright Phoebus regulars as well as some of the lesser known gems of the Sheffield music scene, will be released towards the end of summer 2013.

Other concerts are planned which are yet to be confirmed.
