The quality of the sound is not outstanding, but please consider that it comes from an original 78rpm remastered on CD with no retouch. Moreover, the chorus' beauty is - itself - bound to 'pianissimo' and 'fortissimo', and this is very difficult to reproduce with the compressed dynamic (to reduce file size) used on the web.

This song stands out among the Italian Alpini's songs of the WW 1914-18

Performer: CORO SAT, Trento, Italy
Historical Recording, circa 1935

MONTE CANINO

Non ti ricordi quel mese di Aprile
quel lungo treno che andava al confine

che trasportavano migliaia di alpini:
su, su correte, è l'ora di partire (x2)

Dopo tre giorni di strada ferrata
ed altri due di lungo cammino
siamo arrivati sul Monte Canino
e a ciel sereno ci tocca riposar

Se avete fame guardate lontano
se avete sete la tazza alla mano
se avete sete la tazza alla mano
che ci rinfresca la neve ci sarà

TRANSLATION

CANINO MOUNTAIN
Do you remember that April month
that long train heading to the borderline
carrying thousand of Alpini:

quick, come on, it's time to leave (x2)

After a three-days railroad trip
and two days of long walking
we arrived on Monte Canino
and we had to rest under a cloudless sky (i.e. in the open)

If you are hungry watch in the distance,
if you are thirsty keep your cup handy
if you are thirsty keep your cup handy
we will drink the melted snow.
