The following are not songs but poems that I have written. However I have heard it said that poems are merely songs without music. The Traveler I know not where I'm going Only where I have been Miles and miles of highway That I'll n'ver travel again I know not where this road leads Or even where it ends I know not where I'm going Only where I have been A Beach Known as Grief Often times on the journey of life We have to pause on a lonely beach That is known to us only as Grief And stare across an ocean called Death Which stretches on to something we can't reach At the end of a loved one's life so brief To see them carried beyond the horizon To a place that the living cannot see For this forlorn place bears another name It is The Edge to those who stand upon it The place where they are finally set free From the shackles of this world's fear and pain What will you do as you stand there on the sand Concentrating on where they disappeared from sight? Will you stand forever on that lonely shore? Or will you plung into the waves after them Braving the wrath of the sea's wind and might Chasing the one you cannot hold any more? Or will you stand there upon the beach's sand And watch the twilight birth of a bright new star? Turn away with a smile to pick up life's fight? For you are here and their long journey is done Now a whisper from beyond the horizon far "It's time to move on, my friend. I'll be alright." Far Side of the Sunset Bittersweet good-byes Are always the most bitter When I see it in your eyes How much you hate to leave me But they are also the most sweet Because I suddenly see How much you treasure that, in this lifetime, we could meet And yet how much you long to go I grip your hand with a tight embrace Trying to lend you a little of my strength although I can feel the tears streaking down my face And I realize just how weak I am still A melancholy feeling wraps itself around this moment in time And though I hold you, I can feel you slipping from me still I lean close to your ear and you whisper into mine "I'll bee there, on the far side of the sunset." Suddenly I look up and you are gone And I find myself adrift on an ocean of memories I'll never forget But I know we will meet again before long And I breathe across that lonely frontier "I'll be waiting on this side of dreams." Good luck to you all and I mean it when I say God bless, Rebecca
