I used OpenOffice for a number of years (mainly on Windows) when it was a Sun product. Changed ownership led to the alternative LibreOffice, which has now had much more development than OpenOffice. I've used LibreOffice on Linux exclusively since it appeared and find it does more than I need. Most MS Office documents are readable and LO reliably writes Word & Excel documents. MS documents containing macros are a problem - the macros are proprietary MS language. Word documents with complex graphics or tables are often difficult, but since the problem is not universal, I suspect the original is poorly constructed (I still see many Word documents where layout is achieved with loads of tabs and spaces). The database element still needs work (I found form editing buggy) but in my experience there are few database users - most are content with spreadsheet solutions. Phil
