As the name suggests, Dollymount Strand has been used by generations of Dubliners as a "romantic" getaway.
Bull Island started life as a sandbank which resulted from the building of the North and South walls at the mouth of the Liffey, to stop the river mouth silting up.
The marine engineer who was responsible for the construction of the 2 walls was William Bligh, later captain of the Bounty.
