At recent folk festival I had the experience of hearing one of my own compositions sung by somebody who then claimed it as an Irish song. I was about to remonstrate with this person after his performance but was struck by the thought that I wrote it about Ireland whilst on holiday there and set it to an Irish sounding tune when I got home. Now, if it was written about Ireland,in Ireland does that make it Irish even if I'm not?
