In 1998 my email was with Cable & Wireless, when they were taken over by NTL. I had letters promising that nothing would change. 350 days later I was informed that the cwcom addresses would cease in 2 weeks - NTL had only committed to 1 year of serving C&W customers.

I decided I would never again be reliant on an operator for my email and registered my own domain. I was originally able to create 20 email addresses - now I can create 1000. I normally read emails using Thunderbird, but I can also use 1&1's very efficient Webmail.

Sending out group emails, I get a few false rejections by spam filters. The vast majority of these are by Yahoo servers, which is ironic when most of spam emails I receive come from Yahoo addresses.
