I bought one of the original Edirol. R09. It was pricey but an excellent bit of kit which I still have. The original Zoom came out and undercut it by about 50% and Roland lost out big time as they were slow bringing their price down for the Edirol. From what I have read, the Edirol was a better bit of kit but not better enough to compensate for the price difference. If a Zoom H2 can be got for around £100, it suggests to me they have a replacement due out or they will discontinuing it as sales are declining as people are either buying the H1 for its portability or the H4 for it's greater feature set and the H2 is left in the middle with no real advantage over either. My R09 is still going strong but it is getting dated. It has the original firmware in still and is limited to 2 GB cards which I don't really find a problem except that 1 & 2 GB cards are getting hard to find now so I am considering a replacement.
