If the problem is finding a soundcard with MIDI connections, this should solve it, it has midi in and out plugs, usb the other end, and needs no external power supply http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/usb-to-midi-adapter-cable-a03fk I've been using one for several years to connect a midi controller to a pc with Noteworthy, but it should be ok with other manuscript progs. The pc recognises it straight away and it comes up as a MIDI input option in Noteworthy.
