There are 180 Fahrenheit degrees between freezing and boiling; old Herr Fahrenheit assigned the zero value to the coldest temp he had ever experienced, which was 32 of his degrees below freezing. Celsius divided the difference between freezing and boiling to 100 of his degrees, and started the scale at freezing = zero. As a hospital worker in the Ontario system I got used to Celsius temperatures real quick.
